Mon Colonel & Spit at Can Ibiza

24.06.2024 - 28.07.2024

Can Garita is a contemporary art gallery located in a vernacular architecture called 'caseta de varadero' in Ibiza, which this year will present a sculptoric exhibition by the duo Mon Colonel & Split. Garita inaugurated its first exhibition in July 2023 in Sa Caleta (South) during the CAN Art fair, and is now opening a second space in collaboration with Los Enamorados in the northern part of the island, in Portinatx. Garita was launched by Sarah Suco Torres, who worked in several top contemporary art galleries in New York, Brussels, and Paris.

MON COLONEL (Eric Bassleer, born in 1974) and SPIT (Thomas Stiernon, born in 1977) are a Belgian artist duo since 2007, based in Liège. Former graffiti artists of "The ERS" in the 90s, their practice now spans drawing, painting, sculpture, and ceramics, often combined in installations. Their work reflects a playful and ironic universe influenced by everyday life, comics, and urban culture. Through a lens of naivety and humor, they create a self-critical commentary on society. Among their notable exhibitions are "En piste!” at the Musée de la Boverie (2023) and Reload at the MIMA Museum (2022). Their works are part of collections such as FRAC Picardie, the MIMA Museum, and the Belgian Royal Family.

Can Garita & Los Enamorados are pleased to present the first solo exhibition in Spain of Eric Colonel & Thomas Spit. On this occasion, the artists bring together a new selection of ceramics created especially for this exhibition.
