New series of works

A series of new works delve deeply into the rich world of Philippine mythology. These works explore timeless themes such as cultural identity, the immigrant experience, and the complexities of family dynamics - subjects the artist addresses through a contemporary lens and a bold artistic approach.

In these works, MJ Torrecampo reimagines traditional Philippine myths in a fresh visual language, blending elements of her Filipino heritage with a modern sensibility. Drawing inspiration from graphic novels, traditional Filipino art forms, and visual storytelling, she creates intricate compositions that both honor and reinterpret ancient folkloric tales.

Torrecampo’s works challenge the viewer to engage with these myths in a dynamic way.

By adopting a distinctive overhead viewpoint and using non-traditional canvases that break from the conventional rectangle, she invites the audience into a world where time and space coexist within a single perspective. This unique approach allows the stories to unfold not just visually, but as complex, multilayered narratives that speak to universal themes of human connection, respect for nature, and the balance between opposing forces.
