Seidel
Johanna Seidel was born in Sebnitz, Germany in 1993. Since 2014, she has been studying Fine Arts at the HfBK Dresden, under the guidance of Prof. Peter Bömmels until 2018 and subsequently under Prof. Anton Henning. In 2016, she was nominated for the scholarship of the Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes and has been involved in the Artist-Run-Space EXI4 since then.
Her artistic journey has taken her to various places, including a guest semester at the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts in Paris in 2017/2018, where she studied under James Rielly. Additionally, in 2018, she participated in an Artist-In-Residence program at the Wintercampus of the Künstlerstadt Kalbe e.V.
Seidel's paintings capture moments of transition, often associated with rites of passage, as described by anthropologist Victor W. Turner. Her work explores the feeling of being in an unmarked state, transitioning from one order to another. She emphasizes community and sisterhood in her depictions, creating scenarios where individuals merge with their environment, blurring the lines between human, animal, and nature.
