Damaris
Pan
Damaris Pan approaches her artistic practice with as much naturalness as absolute rigour. Convinced that in painting there hardly are any certainty, and indeed an infinite number conflicts in her particular relation to it, the Basque artist focuses her attention in the plastic possibilities that the medium can offer. Hers is a type of productive speculation, one that leads her to investigate the act of painting and to propose concrete solutions to advance in her understanding of the form. From this intentionality comes an agile and versatile body of work, intriguing and ironic at times, by which the artist manages to overcome the dichotomy between figuration and abstraction to enter the realm of the paradoxical. It is precisely this lack of narrative exigency that allows her to exclusively focus on painting and sets her free from any kind of orthodoxy that could potentially limit her object of study.
Damaris Pan lives and works in Bilbao where she combines her artistic practice with a teaching position in the department of Painting at Fine Arts University of the Basque Country. Previous exhibitions include Un Martillo en la Cabeza, Ana Mas Projects, Barcelona 2022, Veri Pery, Half House, Barcelona, 2022.
