Sofia Pashaei is a multidisciplinary artist and filmmaker that through the usage of paintings and animations investigates the perception of modern day life told from the perspective of womanhood and relationships. Pashaei plans out her painting as you would plan out a scene in a movie, seemingly real looking but all a façade. The images do not hide the construction and manipulation of what is being portrayed and reflect back to us a society so constructed that even the figures become building blocks for the architecture of the composition. The images allow spaces to flatten and depict moments that are simultaneously familiar and artificial. A successful animator/filmmaker and graphic designer, she will have her first solo show with Ballon Rouge in September 2022 in Brussels. Her work is currently on view at Fondation Boghossian, Villa Empain for the group exhibition “Portrait of a Lady,” and she will be in a group show opening this April at Rufus Gallery in Gent, Belgium.
