Mickey Mason (b.1993) is an artist based out of Victor Harbor, South Australia. Inspired by country music, obscure movie villains and tropical paradises, Mason explores an imaginative fantasy world where bad guys run rife, ufos are a casual occurrence and everyone seems to smoke. Emerging from a background in film, Mason draws from a mixture of personal experience, old Hollywood movies and adventure literature. Mason paints ideas that are fun, loud and camp. Central to Mason’s work is his vivid colours, unique textures and narrative perspective which combine to create surreal yet familiar works. Mason has exhibited in a various shows in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide, Australia and most recently his work was on view at the group exhibition Viscereal curated by Sasha Bogojev at Althuis Hofland Fine Arts, NL.
