Adrián Martínez will present A Wander Walk at El Molino in San Antoni de Portmany, through the OFF program of CAN Art Ibiza. An initiative that, since 2022, promotes the art of Balearic artists by holding exhibitions in venues on the Pittusan islands, mainly between Formentera and Ibiza.
"A Wander Walk"
The main pieces are made with Mallorcan sheep's wool dyed by natural techniques using native plants. The colors have been extracted from olive leaves, pomegranate peels, rubia tinctorum root and other local species.
This use of wool not only recovers its intrinsic value, but also promotes a circular economy: the material ceases to be a waste and becomes a significant resource. The work establishes a dialogue between two worlds. On the one hand, the universe of the image represented, where the discipline of drawing and the use of irony take center stage; and on the other, the material itself, which allows reflection on sustainability and the local. The landscape is literally integrated into the pieces, with plant fragments collected from the ecosystems through which the sheep pass, interwoven into the work. From a narrative perspective, the exhibition covers themes ranging from the conventions of the art world to scenes inspired by the language of comics.
The exhibition closes with a work conceived specifically for the room, underlining once again the centrality of drawing in the exhibition as a whole.
Adrián Martínez (Eivissa, 1984) has a degree in Fine Arts from the ULL, Tenerife. He currently lives and works in Mallorca. He develops his artistic activity through drawing, understood as a process of research and understanding, the result of his desire to narrate certain stories, to reflect on everyday life or to question his artistic practice. The materials used in his work range from graphite on wall, iron, wool or animation/sound, each of these materials has its own language and manages to give various layers and depths to the work.
His solo exhibitions include Es Baluard Museu (Palma), Galería Ferran Cano (Barcelona and Palma), Sala de Arte Cabrera Pinto (Tenerife) and Ateneo de La Laguna (Tenerife). He has participated in numerous group exhibitions in: Casal Solleric (Palma), La Regenta (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria), MACE (Eivissa), TEA (Tenerife), Círculo de Bellas Artes de Madrid, Es Baluard Museu (Palma), MUU Kaapeli (Helsinki), Centro de Arte La Recova (Tenerife) and Sala de Arte Cabrera Pinto (La Laguna).
His work is represented in the following public and private collections: MACE, Museu d'Art Contem-porani d'Eivissa; Fundación Mapfre Guanarteme; Ayuntamiento de Manacor, Ayuntamiento de Santanyí, Gobierno de Canarias and the Universidad de La Laguna.
In 2022 it received the XXV Premi Ciutat de Manacor d'Arts Plàstiques; in 2024 it was awarded the Premio Vila de Santanyí Francisco Bernareggi de Artes Visuales and in the same year it participated in BIAM 2024, Bienal de Arte Ciudad de Amposta at the Centre Lo Pati.
For the third consecutive year, the Balearic tourism company Paya Hotels reaffirms its strong commitment to Balearic artistic creation and to strengthening and increasing the visibility of this sector through its support of the OFF CAN 2025 program. This program not only promotes Balearic talent but also seeks to connect Ibiza and Formentera through art.
